Hey all,
I'm new here but this forum looks like the best place to discuss vintage drums. I'm glad I can be a member here.
The latest vintage-issue I have to deal with is the following.
Just today I have received the '20s-'30s 5x14" Ludwig snare I bought a short while ago. Brass shell, 8 x tube lugs. The shell was 'acid-washed' by someone at some point so the drum looks pretty 'rustic' in a way but I dig this 'custom' finish. I will use this drum on gigs and recordings so I don't want to turn it into a museum-piece. Though I'd like to replace the non-original (R-Class) throw with something more appropriate. Not that the R-class is not working great, it just does not belong to this drum, imo. There are no extra holes on the shell (sigh..) and the throw goes on with 2 bolts, drilled vertically, the hole spacing is 4 cm / 1.57".
I'm thinking that maybe a '20s-'30s Pioneer throw could have been originally mounted on this drum but anything similar vintage Luddy or Leedy throw would be great. Any ideas/hints will be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot & peace,
JoGa
