That is the wrap that Ludwig is currently using. How I got some...I promised not to tell but it took over a year of concerted effort to get it.The best readily available Mod Orange is the stuff that Jammin' Sam sells. It has the colors down pat and is random like the original. The difference between it and the stuff Ludwig currently offers is simply the overall pattern, although neither quite perfectly recreates the original from the late60s/early 70s.I originally was going to buy the stuff from Jammin Sam but got into a bit of an argument with him on the phone while trying to place my order for some full sheets and then he refused to sell it to me. This all happened a couple years ago and it's possible the wrap I used is now available on the aftermarket as a special order...might be worth a phone call to Precision to ask (although that's not where I got mine). I have bought a couple of unique wraps through them that were not shown on their website. There is another variation that is made in China. stufffordrummers.com carries it but it's not quite the same as the original, lacking the lavender color....although from a distance they all just look orange.

@Ludwig402-

Precisiondrum.com still has a wide selection last I looked. GL!

Thanks KO.

I was secretly hoping you had a Bumwrap version.

The project I'm working on is a 3ply, 3pc kit made up of a WFL bass drum, a Ludwig Standard tom, and a Ludwig mid 70s floor tom. I'm already into it for $500, so Precision and Sam aren't really an option since I don't plan on keeping the drums and plan to sell locally.

I did a Gretsch kit in green diamond from China and was very pleased with the product and the results. I just wish they had deeper depths and that the wraps were cut square. Stuff for Drummers has deeper sheets but less of a selection, and the Orange is sold out.

What do you think of Bumwrap's "Orange Mod 2"? There's no lavender in it at all, but it might pass as a nod to the vintage finish.

Lee, I'll take that blue Rogers set when you decide to let it go.

Hey Bob!

I sold that kit 2 years ago. If I remember correctly, there was some kind of screw up in communication between us, and assuming you decided to pass, I ended up selling them to the guy next in line.

I think it was blue pearl from Precision.

I really don't remember what happened, but it was what it was. You know what I like, Lee. We'll talk soon. Thanks. The Band

To me the lavender is what makes the wrap so not my cup of tea. If I'm rewrapping a set I don't want to do so in "pre-faded" wrap. But that's just me. They make that version to match to original sets that have faded (as most MO sets do, to the point that some folks think that's how it's supposed to look). But I've seen people do it...or even more inexplicably, rewrap an entire set in the Bum Wrap Psych Red with no green! Completely washed out faded away...yet brand new. Again that version of the wrap exists to match to very badly faded originals....but to each their own.

I got samples of all of Bum Wraps mod wraps at one time and the Psych Red (more Blue) and Citrus Mod are quite nice but none of their Mod Orange samples grabbed me. Even on the full on version the colors were muted and just didn't pop. Add in that the pattern repeats and it's a no go for me for their Mod Orange. And Walopus screwed me over on some mod orange once upon a time so that's a non starter. I have used BW Psych red (more blue) with good results.

That leaves Jammin Sam as the only game in town (an unfortunate turn of events). The pattern is a bit off but the colors are spot on.

Here's an unfaded 70's tom next to a Ludwig Element SE which is the same wrap (though factory applied by Ludwig) as JS sells.

Thanks again KO.

I've used Bumwrap's Psyche Red and Citrus Mod before, and both sets sold pretty quickly, so I guess the patterns and colors were passable. I haven't been able to pull the trigger on any of their Oranges for exactly the reasons you state. If JS is the only option, then I guess Mod Orange is out for this kit. I'm sure there will be others :)

This was originally a 1974 pawn shop buy of mismatched 65-66 era Keystone badge Ludwigs. Orphans. 20" White Marine P kick; 13" Blue Oyster P tom. I subsequently bought a 15" and 16" B&O badged (WMP) toms to fill out the kit. Because they never matched and the show must go on they were stripped and painted a few times, most memorably hot pink--which worked really well when I got gigs on the country circuit. They also suffered through the ugly redrills for Pearl pipes. I eventually stripped the shells, which included some exciting flames along the way, plugged the (many) holes, smoothed and filled. Stripped the interiors of the paint and left them a hair away from smooth, then urethaned them. Trued up the bearing edges. Then wrapped them in Turquoise glass glitter. (Took me close to a year.) By the time I had done I didn't have the heart to put the badge back on the kick, cause it was a fair distance from the drum that left the factory. (At that pawnshop I also got a Supra and a set of Turkish K hats and a 20" ride that are still in use today ) And they are a blast to play.

Thought that you might like to see my conversion of a 15x15" Slingerland marching snare into a 7"x15" snare drum. Sounds as lovely as it looks!

1938 8"x15" Leedy Broadway Standard

...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.
