i don't see any chunks of chrome missing. kinda looks like grime and oxidation that would clean up some. i have seen cases in which the drum being so dirty actually protected the finish somewhat..

I think it will clean up fine.

Cleaned up nice, might be worth 150,175. Thinking about getting this kit just for the snare. Keep the snare and re-sell the kit with a Rocker snare that a i have sitting around.

Thanks guys, interesting tha the grime could possibly preserve the chrome. I would go check it out but its about 40 miles away. I will have to think about this. Thanks for your input.

That is pretty deep pitting. It will clean up a great deal but will never be smooth and shinny again. Unless you have it replated (spendy).

Fast track to it looking better is take everything apart. Take lots of pictures at this point.

Soak in CLR until the bubbles stop. Use a glass jar so you can see when the bubbles stop.

Rinse multiple times with warm water. Dry with a cotton towel.

Have a rock tumbler? If not, any friends that reload rifle/pistol casings? They might. Seems Harbor Freight has ones that have worked well for other members.

Give everything a good tumble (I like walnut shells med.) and polish with your choice. You will be amazed at the results!!

Ya I cant tell if the chrome is pitted or just dirty. I use that CLR also, great stuff. Some day when I get ahead I might invest in a vibrator like Puride has but for 200 bucks I will have to polish the old way.

I also think that is surface grunge,not pitting.

Yea sometimes digital pictures show every speck of dirt and grime. Hard to say for sure. If it is heavier pitting Creighton is right there will be small poc marks left behind. If it's not that bad or deep they should come off completely. Not the end of the world and a nice polish hides them pretty well. Either way it'll be a nice snare when you finish. Maybe the guy will have a shash of nice cymbals for you for a extra $20 ?? Happy hunting!

If the shell were pitted badly, I think you would see more of a contrast between the lugs and the shell. From my experience it looks more like a consistent layer of grime on the whole drum. There very well could be some pitting on that shell, but I would think that'll clean up nice..

I would start out by just cleaning it with Dawn dishwashing liquid and see what is there.
