It's important to distinguish between bearing edge problems and edge trueing issues. The problem here as described is not a bearing edge problem but a problem of trueing. Edges don't have to be perfectly trued, as long as you can get a good seal when you tighten the head. But of course if the bump is big enough, like the gold sparkle further upthread, yeah that could be a problem when you try to tune the drums. It can even cause warping because you have to tighten the heads very unevenly.
That whole thing about putting the drum on a flat surface and sticking a light inside to see if there is any gap at all is just amateurish nonsense. It's a good way to check, but just because there is a slight gap or imperfection doesn't mean you have to re-true the edges. Only if it's a big gap like the one pictured upthread.
So if your drum is performing well and not giving any problems, I wouldn't bother re-truing, because you can't just re-true them, you have to re-cut the bearing edges afterwards because trueing will sand them flat and basically ruin the edge. If it's a vintage round over you might get away with doing a hand round over. Personally I would never try that, but others here seem to have had success with it.
