The rarest of the old A eras - 1954

Here's a 20" from the same era. In a poll taken on Cymbalholic comparing this one to an old K., 80% of the respondants said they thought this was an old K. And they thought the old K. was an A.

I love the enthusiasm and knowledge you guys bring to cymbals... good read here.

Just one Q - sorry if naive - how do you know what year these A's are? There not serialled like Paistes, are they?

I've worked out a system that links trademark characteristics eras of manufacture.

Cool, thanks for the reply. What are the clues on this one (from a 20" cymbal)? It came as a set of three. I'm in the UK by the way. I'm just wondering if it's newer or older than my actual kit...

Marktristan - this looks like the same cymbal.............mine are 14" hats here that came with the 1958 Gretsch kit I'm restoring.

At first glance Markistan's looks like early 70's and Kona's like late 1950's.

But I need to see the hammering on both in order to be sure.

Are these good enough to see the hammering? I took these a few days ago when I move the kit to my drum room - just random photos. I can take more.

I need to see a face on shot of the hammering to be sure. But from what I can see of the lathing, it's saying later 1950's.

Ooh, I've got a face shot of my hammering!

But not a shot of my face being hammered (thankfully).

How's this?

Also late 50's.

O.K. now how about a picture of your face, taken face on, after you just got hammered?
