The "IT" drum set by brand Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

So there's a reason why we all like certain drum companies: shell construction, mounts, finishes, hardware ect.

But I think most of us are simpler than that, I think we like certain brands because of the drummers who played these drums.

So when you think of a drum company what drummer and drum set do you think of? What drummer and set is synonymous with a brand to you? Try not to think about it too hard, it's a bit more reaction based.

Now this will probably show how old/young and what genera of music we are into but here goes.

I agree with your assessment and would add that we are often drawn to either the first kit we owned (one of the reasons a lot of guys like MIJ kits around here and why I am so fond of Premier) or this first kit we really drooled over as a kid.

You could add quite a bit to that list depending on age and musical styles. For instance I am more likely to think Stewart Copeland or Simon Phillips when I think of Tama. Steve Smith when I think of Sonor. I am sure lots of guys will add John Bonham to the Ludwig moniker.

Interesting thread.

I agree with you, Steve smith was my second on sonor, the point was I guess almost like word association.

My 80's hair band roots almost made me say Eric Carr from KISS, or Alex VanHalen for Ludwig.

It's funny. I never really consciously associated drummers to what drums they played. I always associated a riff or passage; definitely songs by them. Hmf. It's interesting to see how some of you guys can rattle off a list.

Good read.

Back when there were albums we actually looked at the photos, read the liner notes and the credits. I used to know who played on which tracks, what gear they endorsed, who was engineering, producing and mastering, who the artists were thanking, what label they were on, etc. Hard to do that with an mp3 download. That is quite sad.
