So, I'm removing the lugs and such off of an 80 Luddy 6 ply so that I can put them on some SWEET 3 ply shells I picked up. I'm working like a mad monkey in heat when I go to screw in the first lug. The screw goes all the way in and the lug just flops there. I realize after a brief 2 1/2 hour reprise that the screw is too long. So, I head out to Lowe's Hardware and pick up some washers. I spend 17 hours on the screw and washer isle and finally find the exact washer I'm looking for - 1/8 x 3/4. It's PERFECT in every way. They only have about 20 of them. So, I make due with another brand in bulk (I need about 120 of them) at 1/8 x 1 inch. I grit my teeth and pay for these second rate second choice dofer's. I have to wait until Spring Break to begin working on the shells again...several weeks...that's a lot of days to wait!
Here I am...on Spring Break...working on the shells. I pull out my 'second choice' washers and go to put the screw into the washer....IT DOESN'T FIT!!! The hole is too small. I call up Lowe's and work on the phone for 3 more hours trying to steer the lemming to the correct washer bin. He finally finds them and tells me he doesn't have 120 of them. I scream and kick the dog and slam the phone down.
So, I find a supplier online and order them only to find out they won't be here until AFTER Spring Break. I have ten days to work on these shells. Ten UNINTERRUPTED days of drumming bliss. I sent my family to Florida so I could be here BY MYSELF to finally finish this project...unemcumbered...no responsibilities...free as a dung beetle.
I want a redo!
