I'd like to know more about 60's Slingerland drums made in Shelbyville, TN. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
Tell Me About Shelbyville Slingerlands
I'd like to know more as well. Apparently, they were assembled in Shelbyville from '65-'66. I'd like to know why though.
I know that Ludwig had labor issues. Makes me wonder if Slingerland did too, or maybe it was to keep up with demand at the height of Beetlemania.
Basically the same shells as those produced in Niles, with the only difference being that the re-rings were solid oak instead of maple. Here's a link where you can read all about the operation. Just scroll down until you get to the Shelbyville section. This is taken from The Slingerland Book... https://books.google.com/books?id=QWxMAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT102&lpg=PT102&dq=slingerland+shelbyville+operation&source=bl&ots=K-xq4eBxGo&sig=d_samYixrEYPl193OTLpRpn6wAw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjJ166-_JzaAhXOq1MKHQGHCIAQ6AEIQDAC#v=onepage&q=slingerland%20shelbyville%20operation&f=false

I'd say that yesterday someone bought quite a nice set of vintage Slingerlands for $800 bucks.

Actually 750 + 100 shipping.
Hopefully they get here ok.
I have been after a Stage Band for quite some time & this looked too good to pass up esp at the price.
These are the Shelbyville Slingys as well.
If they arrive unhurt, I'll be selling my Ludwig Club Dates from 1964 that are mint. 22/13/14/14.
Thanks for the link Mark. Interesting read for sure.
Way to go, Mark! It looks like a really fine Stage Band kit! I love the Maroon/Brass "shelbyville" badges and the solid oak re-rings.
