Need help! Picked up a 12" tom and a 16" floor tom for 20$. The Tama badge is not traditional but more of an oval or olive shape. Are these items worth something or should i do an end table out of the floor tom? Thanks for the help!

Great score, Eric! I’m not really sure what they’re worth, but I’d keep them intact and see if you like the sound of them. These Tama’s would work great if you’re building a 70’s themed Rock set. Are they concert toms, or double headed?

Double headed. Were the olive shape badges used prior to what we know today?

Apparently, the oval badges were definitely used in ‘72 based on pictures in a catalog I found on the Tama website. They look like good drums to me, very “Slingerland esque” with the oval badge. I attached two photos, one of the bigger 5 piece set, and also a downbeat sized kit with center mounted lugs. The original Swingstars when they made them under the “Star” moniker had a round badge, like a Gretsch but bigger and not embossed. The last picture is of an early set from the ‘65 Catalog.

Eric, the below pic is a newer swingstar badge. Tama makes great drums and it sounds like you got a great deal. The late 70s and early 80's Swingstar badges looked like the Tama 'T' and would have made in Japan on the bottom.
