I recently picked up a 1971 Supraphonic. It's in overall very good condition with what I would say is minimal pitting on the shell.
My issue is with the areas of corrosion along the bearing edges that creates rough spots that will be in contact with the heads.
What is the opinion of the community on dealing with this issue?

I have several with this issue and don't think it affects the sound fortunately.
I guess you could sand lightly if it is sharp and flaking but I have never done that.

The head material should be able to form/deform around those minor irregularities. If they are significant or sharp, and you want to take them down a bit without using sandpaper, I would suggest using a drum head that is slightly larger on the drums and rotate it with clockwise/counterclockwise motions. Using a larger head is just to make sure the drum head hoop isn't going to contact the side of the shell, but still make good contact with the bearing edge.
I'm thinking of using a super-fine sanding drum on my Dremel and just hit the worst areas lightly!
