supporting snare wires on an old supraphonic

Loading...

I just purchased a '76 supraphonic. These old ludwig snares don't support ribbons on both sides. I've been using standard nylon strings on the throw-off side, and they either break or stretch after about 10 minutes of use.

Does anyone know of a good alternative to nylon strings?

Yeah, the wire-coated type such as those included in with Purecussion Snares work perfectly well for me. They last for years, and if you can tie them properly and tightly enough, and allow for them to settle, they don't break or stretch.

Puresound snare cord works well too (and is more readily available than Ludwig's).....not the wire type (although that does work), the cord type. Also, try looping the cord through differently to help prevent it from stretching as much.
