Superficial Drum Pet Peeves

I hate seeing modern hardware with a vintage kit. There's nothing worse than seeing a beautiful Downbeat set up with double-braced Pearl stands that weigh 10 pounds.

I also hate when people put RIMS mounts on vintage (or any) drums.

Also anything made by Pearl except my old brass Free Floater.

Currently looking for a 3-ply 24x14 Ludwig in champagne sparkle w/rail consolette and cymbal mount!

Not sure if this has been previously listed, but it really bothers me when I see the lower hoop and snare frame from a Dynasonic installed opposite where they should be! The adjustment should be below the strainer, not the butt!

I hate seeing an obvious guitar player or other musician who has come across a beat up set of vintage drums, has gotten some really bad advice, looked around on the internet for 20 minutes, then lists them for several hundred dollars more than what a perfect kit of that configuration would sell for.

Lucky for him, I’m the type that will respond and give him the news! 😜

How about those upside down floor toms in listings? You know, when the mounts are at the top!!

I've actually known several drummers who set it up this way...

At the risk of echoing already mentioned crimes, some things just are worth repeating:

RIMS, especially on vintage drums, but really under any circumstances.

Black front bass heads makes me sad.

Angled rack toms. Just strange...like they’re hitting gongs or something.

Super heavy cymbal stands, something I’m guilty of myself in the studio because of rattling thinner stands when I’m playing with mallets, but the sight of it still bothers me.

Hmmm let's see...............

1. Seeing a boom stand set up at a weird angle, like the tilter is the lowest part of the boom arm.

2. Seeing stand tripods extended out as far as they can go. Looks completely ridiculous and is completely unnecessary, not to mention a waste of precious stage space!

3. Seeing countless drummers using no sleeves or felts on a cymbal stand. Like seriously? Those are about the cheapest accessories you can buy.

4. Seeing really high end drums that are tuned like complete garbage and/or muffled to death. Happened last night. The band that followed us, their drummer was using a C&C Club Date Style kit. Looked amazing! He had double ply heads and about 4 moongels on each head. With an Evans EMAD on the bass. Drums sounded like cardboard boxes. If you're going to muffle that heavily so all the tone is gone, might as well save your money and get a used, crappy Excel kit for $50. No one will be able to tell the difference!

By the way, I confess that I am one of "those people" that put RIMS mounts on vintage drums. To me, it's all about the sound. Those clip style and eye bolt (Ludwig) mounts weren't great for resonance. The RIMS mounts help them tremendously. I consider this a "minor offense", because I am not permanently altering the drum in any way (ie no extra holes being added or changing the bearing edge etc.). I can always take it off, put the mount back on the shell and it's back in original condition.

Also, who has a 14x16 floor tom?

I actually bought this size bag so I could leave my legs on the drum when packing it away.

Idiots that post on CL and when the item doesn't sell , they repost at 3x the price.

There's a poster here on Cl that last week was selling a set at $650 who just reposted at $1800.
