Super-Sensitive Snare Wires Last viewed: 14 minutes ago

Hi Folks!

I recently was fortunate enough to "snare" a Ludwig Super-Sensitive snare drum.

According to the serial number it is a 1965 vintage.

It looks like the six remaining snare wires are ancient. All the dual-strainer parts seem to be present.

Do these have to be strung up with individual wires or is there a drop-in set option?

I did find one such set online but the listing said it only fit 1968 and later models...

I've never owned one of these babies before, so any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Have had set of Dynasonic wires restored by Zoran Bibin in Serbia. Yes a long way from here, but I have a couple of other wires from him as well. Does excellent work, and great to deal with.

I believe those can be found under Ludwig L1232.

I’ve seen a set at Sweetwater.

Not sure if these are the type you’d need.

Puresound has a PS1412 that might fit your need.

Pics of your drum and measurements would help.

I’m sure a salesman can help you out easily.

This set of wires are for 1968 and newer. Won't fit a 1965. Those wires are next to impossible to find!

Yes, these are the wires needed...but...try finding them! Next to impossible! Puresound ceased production, quite some time ago, of many different sets of vintage wires. One specific set of non-existent wires are the Puresound PLS-1416. These are the wires for the Ludwig Super Classic snare drum that uses the P87 strainer and P32 butt.

The width of the Snare bracket catches are 1 5/8" across for a pre-1969 SS (the P-88), finally named in the 1975 catalog.

They were over 2 inches wide for the larger, later version, the P-70 (post-1969)

The L1232 is for the P-70, and will not fit your drum.

Thanks for pointing that out. Easy to find picture but not a set to purchase!

Not unless you're at my house, Mark. I've got two extra sets sitting in my drum room, but I need to keep them for emergencies!
