Thanks for the additional tips guys. I tried more glue and longer clamp/drying time. Seems to have worked! It will take a few days to get all the gaps fixed. I'll probably use the glue mixed with sawdust trick for any small gaps still showing. Will post pics when complete.

To get glue spread down in the gap I use automotive feeler gauges. I take them all apart, the use say a .020 for a shim and like a .007 to poke the glue down in the crevice. The hole in the gauge helps to move the glue.
I use titebond and clamp overnight, never had a problem.
