Kevin,
Try Mothers Mag Metal Polish works great on nickel...
Bob
Hey Bob,
Is Mag Metal polish different from just the normal Mother's polish used with chrome?
-Kevin
Kevin - either of these products have worked well for me:
Nevr-Dull (wadding) polish
Cape Cod Cloths
You can get either one anyplace that sells silver or cutlery polishes. Either one does a really nice job on nickel.

No products out there that we can just dip this stuff in and it comes out shiny is there?!?! Haha, vintage drums would be so much easier if there were!
Kevin,
The product I use is Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. It's a white paste and comes in a 5 oz. tin. Apply it to the nickel with a terry cloth towel, or reasonable facsimile, and rub it in gently. You'll get a black residue on the cloth. Polish it off with a clean cloth and you should be good to go. No real hard rubbing is necessary. This particular product is not recommended for chrome. I'm sure there are other good producta out there but this one works really well on nickel. Hope that helps.
Bob
I have used the Mothers mag polish and it works well. I usually use Flitz and have used simichrome.
I picked up some of those Cape Cod cloths a while back. They work pretty well but I personally like Flitz or simchrome better.
Just an aside... the Cape Cod cloths were recommended to me by Mike Curotto some time back. Mike details more rare drums in a month than most of us do in a life-time. On nickel... Cape Cod cloths do a fine job. You need to bear in mind that whatever you use, polishing nickel parts is going to take a bit of elbow-grease.
John
Simichrome polish works really well too.
