Stuck snare head

Just picked up a Gretsch 4160 Round Badge snare and the head is stuck on the shell - should I just drip in some 3in1 or WD40 to loosen it? Also does anyone have any pix of the air hole just to the right of the lightning strainer? There are 2 washers inside the drum but I think I'm missing a part that goes on the outside. Thanks.

It may be stuck because of dirt and grime that has accumulated over the years and acted like an adhesive or the shell could be warped, and the head is stuck. If you use WD-40, apply it gently around the perimeter with a rag. Don't use a lot. Otherwise, some steady twisting, pulling, and generally elbow grease should eventually work.

Well.....it IS a Gretsch, isn't it?

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Thanks, what I need for that hole is the key holder grommet, and maybe the key too, I just found out - Gretsch stuff is all new to me.

Wouldn't the key rattle if left in it?
