Staccato or Legato.. what's your style?

Really interesting discussion at "Off Stage" with Jeff Hamilton.

Jeff: I’ve mentioned before that Mel [Lewis] was a huge influence. He talked to me about the concept of the drummer being a big overstuffed sofa that a band can sit on when they play. That’s always in my mind. That adds to the legato playing—think of that instead of sitting on a unicycle.

Not a Guru... just interested..

I've always been the big comfy couch for my band when we played , still play that way , it's when I go off in a tangent sometimes with those weird timing signatures I become the uni cycle 9/4 takes me away aka max roach , btw any one here his solo album I heard a few takes off it man he's out there .....

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
