Spruce?

Has anyone heard of drums shells made of spruce?

Spruce is used in violins and such for its acoustic properties but I've never heard of it being used in drums. Does it have properties that doesn't make it suitable for use in drums?

I have never heard a spruce drum, but HeadDrums makes them (click on the 'woods' link).
