Speed King - rebuilt and restored - $100 + 6

Nice Speed King that's been rebuilt. To resolve the ever-present squeak stuff, there are nylon bushing through the frame and footboard. I've done quite a few of these lately and this has the latest stuff: the fasteners I used for the nylon bushing is the most inconspicuous as I can make it.

The footboard was painted with appliance enamel 'stainless steel', with a quick spray of polyurethane over it. Appliance enamel was said to be the hardest available when I did my research. Will it wear off? Who knows? ...I've been playing one with this treatment for about six months, and it still looks new. If it does wear off, it'll be the 'high spots' that get the most use, so the rest of it won't get that funky dirty look of most vintage Speed Kings.

I cleaned the inside of the towers thoroughly -- obsessively! They were spotless. The bearings too; cleaned and then sat in warm brake fluid for a while. The springs and the pistons were as clean as new, too.

I replaced the wing bolt on the pedal clamp, as you can see - these are much more 'ergonomic' and just generally better.

Every thread for every screw and bolt has been chased with a tap and die inside and out, so it's all pretty smooth.

I did not put a nylon bushing on the footboard pin that the strap attaches to -- that plan seemed to cause some problems with sticking. But that roll pin is spring steel... pretty tough stuff! -- and it's been coated with DuPont's "liquid Teflon."

Whew! $110 + $6 to ship. I'm more than happy to send internationally, but please contact me so we can get the right shipping cost.

I'd buy this but I have 2 of them that Bob re-worked for me. He's a stand up guy that you can trust who takes pride in his work.

Believe it or else!

Thanks, Mick -- I got a little overwhelmed for a while there, but now my heart's back in it.

I didn't mention that if for ANY reason this pedal doesn't work for whoever buys it, send it back. I would be glad to re-work it...

Two?? Boy, where has my memory gone??

Man, you can buy a boat-load of Speed Kings for $50 to $75. but none of them will work as well, or be as nice as the ones Bob works on.

This pedal is worth every penny the man is asking for it. It's as close to finding a NOS (New Old Stock) vintage Speed King as you're ever going to get.

You do real nice work, dude. My SK is working fine, no squeaks or problems. But the day I go to replace it, I'm buying one of -your- refurbs. You do excellent work on these pedals.

Jeez.... after all these years, it's decent to have a good rep for something!!

And I have to add, my name is Bill, not Bob, BUT the funny part is that all my life, if someone has goten my name wrong, it has ALWAYS been BOB!!

When I graduated, they announcedmy name, I picked up my diploma, walked across the stage. The dean shook my hand and said, "Congratulations, Bob." Maybe I should just change it!

Either way guys, whatever you called me, I appreciate the kind words!

After my PTSD inducing 8 year residence in far SW Virginia, as in VERY small mountain towns, I'd rather not... too much of a reminder.

BUT... whatever works! Billy Bob is memorable -- and does remind me of a raven haired beautiful bartender who would call me that back in the once-daily-visit to the bar days (maybe THAT's what happened to me memory!)

As the saying goes, "My Bad". Never used that one before! Sorry Bill, as much as I've been in touch with you on the E mail, I should know your name.

I do feel your pain. If I had a buck for every time I've been called "Nick" after introducing myself as Mick, I could buy Bun E's collection!

I hear ya on the name mishaps... Mine is Justin, but is usually mistaken with "Jason". Kinda funny when someone does it... I usually just go with it and dont correct them! Cool Dude

Anyhow, if I were to send you a Speed King, how much would you charge to re-do it? Not in any hurry at the moment... Xmas was expensive this year, but sometime in the future I may wanna do this.

Oh!.. and I'm digging that late 30's New Speed Pedal I got from you. That pedal is neat!
