Sorry guys, I'm out...

Loading...

I've enjoyed this forum for many years, and relied on it when I first started getting into vintage drums about 10 years ago (I'm only 31)..I've bought and sold to many of you, with many smooth transactions. I have nothing negative to say in that aspect.

However, there's been some recent chatter that will really deflect the interest of vintage drums from even a younger than me populace, and I simply cannot get behind it. There's an amazing group of people on here with knowledge that could truly extend the interest of this hobby, but yet decide to exclude the uneducated with a holier than thou mentality. This is not a family I want to be a part of. What are we doing?!

Moderators, feel free to contact me with any questions. For the rest of you, I've had a lot of fun learning the ins and outs of vintage drums, I appreciate everyone that's been involved. I'll still be heavily involved in vintage drums, just not through this forum.

Thanks everyone, but I'm out...

As far as "families" go, this forum has it's ups and downs, but we all seem to mend our issues and move on. Not exactly sure what I'm missing with the OP, but maybe some of you can clue me in. Thanks!

Am I missing something? What is this about. Who excluded the uneducated in what thread?

Odd and probably unproductive way of communicating.

What the problem I see at least what i percieve , is that we are a open history lesson on what the vintage drums are all about and sometimes we do try to keep things close to our chest especially with newbies , so if we don't roll the red carpet out for the youts the youts get impatient, as they are known to do ! and with that said they expect to be catered to instead of doing there own research. That's my take on or off the forum but I also see it as a learning place for the buying and selling of drums, btw from this forum the whole world now knows what a 64 silver sparkle 5.5 x14 snare is worth..... Any way I hope he learned enough to buy and sell all the vintage drums he wants good luck ( maybe it's us geezers that bug him)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Those millennials just give up too easy!

When I started out, there was no forums, eBay, or Google to run to and look up values. You were on your own!Eye Ball

I'm only 49, but have been at it over 30 years. I too have seen this younger generation of hipsters and artsy types with their man purses and beards(when it's 100 degrees out??? c'mon!).

They just have no stick-to-it attitude.

Good thing our fore-fathers didn't give up this easy!

While we hate to see members go, I'm in for the long haul. There's too much at stake here to just quit!Soap Box

No idea about where the OP is coming from specifically but I'm on several forums and mod on one too.

A common theme across all of them is " use the search button".

Forum behavior not withstanding, I do sense a general attitude of entitlement from younger generations. ( saying that makes me feel old). But growing up "dot com" allows instant gratification for everyone and everything. Once that feed us cut off and old school research and digging is required, the whining starts.

Pull your self together man!

I was taught if you want something, work, save, and go get it. No one is going to hand you anything. I rate it just slightly above panhandling...

I'm new here and I've found nothing but help, and I appreciate it. I've had plenty of questions and I think they've all been answered quickly and thoroughly.

Who knows, maybe I'll be able to answer a question myself one day!

I also was able to buy three toms from a long-time member in my first month. I'm realizing now you have to have built up a little credit before people will do business with you on these forums, which I can understand. I'm grateful there are people willing to give the time of day to someone with no history or good will to their name.

I guess we all have different impressions of this board and others, it's just too bad some impressions are negative enough to make people want to leave. With as much as I've enjoyed my limited time here I hope more people find it as an online home away from home.
