Soooo... I'm thinking about getting a Leedy kit

Yeah. I thought I had a set of Leedy's as my first kit back in the day, but they were a no-badge stencil kit. The floor tom was pretty awesome however.

Be that as it may, I stumbled across a Leedy kit that appears reasonably unmolested. It's black with the purple sparkles in the finish. Bass, 12" ride tom and snare, but no floor tom. 20" bass, which is fine I guess. I would prefer an 18 but that seems a bit out of my price range.

So my question is: are there any 14" floor toms around in this color? Is it a "rare" color, which means that it will take me decades to find the floor tom for? Does anyone have an orphan in any finish (or cracked/damaged finish) I can then have Precision drum reproduce the wrap for me maybe? (assuming I can afford the drum)

Thanks guys. The input I get here will influence my decision to buy or not.

You best bet is one of two options I can think of. 1. I once had a 14" parade snare drum in this wrap. The parade drums are probably a bit easier to find and convert to find a floor tom than a floor tom. 2. take a good close up picture and a good picture from about two feet away from one of the drums with that wrap. Bum wraps will be able to make you a great reproduction of the wrap for a very reasonable price. You can then apply that wrap over whatever wrap or paint is on a floor tom you wish to use with the Leedy drums. Leedy lugs are always available on eBay.

Here's an all original Slingerland set that I had with this same wrap.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

That looks like the same color.

So would you say it's worth picking up and saving?

Very rare color and a floor tom for them is going to be very difficult which is why they have been for sale for a VERY long time .

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..

I guess there’s no rush then.

I thought it would be cool to have a less mainstream domestic kit. And as I understand it, Leedy quality was quite good.

Leedys are rare birds. Finding a matching floor tom is likely to be very difficult. I've had one Leedy set and sold it because of a major move from MA to FL. I regret it and haven't seen a suitable replacement since then - about 3 years now.

I tend to gravitate to the rare and unusual...

As a former owner, any guidance on where I might look?
