So Sam gives me a call from Sam I am Studios saying Sonor was after a nice teardrop kit for their NAMM 2015 display. He literally called me a day late before I just sold my museum quality kit to another forum member.
Not being one to call it quits I knew I could find another kit quickly and I still had a perfect D426 snare. Sonor wanted a red kit like mine but the nearest I could find was one from 1965. It was in very rough condition and to make it ready for the show was going to take some serious work.
Every bit of hardware except for the lugs was removed, cleaned and polished. Each shell was cleaned, then hand rubbed with compound and polish. Next each shell was buffed with compound and polish. A new period correct bass drum head had to be made. Two logos were mailed overnight; one from California and one from Michigan.
I custom made the front bass drum head from an old coated head by painting, sanding and then painting again for the reso side. On the batter side there is a new coated ambassador with another logo.
I didn't want to bore everyone with the process so lets skip to the results!
