I picked this snare up a few days ago and I'm trying to figure out which model it is. Is it a D454? I paid $200 CAD which seemed reasonable. The strainer mech is a little wonky but it looks well built and it sounds fantastic.

453 to me.
Cheers,
George.
I say 453 as well. They came with the Ranger model. Early 70's.
Lugs may or may not be metal and are not interchangeable. (holes)
I don't recall Sonor using Ludwig Imperial lugs on any of their snare drums!

Back in the thirties Mr. Link built a snare for Mr. Ludwig, Those metal chromed one's were used on it and the very early Sonor drums. Same time period for Ludwig's release of the imperial lugs they made.
The two knew each other well and gifted each other.
Nine out of ten people will swear these are Leedy snares, they are 20's Sonor
Oh, Sonor brought them back in plastic for budget drum kits in the early 70's
Still, I'm just not seeing these lugs on any Sonor drums from the 70's. -Mark
That drum on page one is from the 70's. there are two other models with it I think. Shell packs for these had all plastic other Ludwig type, but way back in 40'50's late 30's maybe, you see them. Very rare even from the budget kit 70's era, Lug type is always an option with Sonor.
Forties were wartime so no gonna see in USA anything. Here's a cat scan of a 50's wood snare offered with the imperial style, so the factory had them in the 40's and 50's
Thanks for the ID help and the info. The lugs on this drum are metal. I thought I would post a few picks of the lugs side by side. Sonor on the left and Ludwig on the right. The hole spacing on the Sonor is just a hair longer.

...it is 99,99% a D453, here you can find a catalog from SONOR with it in the picture:
