Sonor 12" reso snare head

My resonant side drum head burst at my gig on Friday night (this literally has never happened to me !! lol !) and now i have to special order one.

My question is, is it possible that a regular 12"ambassador head can do the job, or maybe even a diplomat ? The only reason i'm asking is because i use my Sonor jungle kit more often than any other so waiting for a 12" resonant snare side head could take weeks, and i can't wait that long. Has anyone ever tried swapping out a real reso snare side head for a regular thin batter head, and if so, did it sound ok ?

As always, all thoughts are appreciated !

Cheers,

Rob

You could probably get by with a Diplomat, although I don't have personal experience.

I can't speak for a 12", but a dip on a 14" sounds YUCKY.

Thin and lifeless with lousy snare action.

Drum Factory Direct has them.

Perhaps ask them to rush a couple to you.

Are there any good drum shops in your part of the world?

Aren't 12" snare side reso's/ hazy just as available as a regular 12" head? You could probably use a Remo clear diplomat which is a 1ply 7.5 mil. A clear Remo Ambassador is 1 ply 10 mil.

The Hazy's are much thinner..

Diplomat hazy is 1ply 2mil.

Ambassador hazy, 1 ply 3mil.

Looks like Sam Ash, Music123, Chicago Music Exchange, etc. all have them.

Does it take weeks to ship north of the border?
