Someone Needs To Write The Definitive Book on 60's MIJ Drums

Loading...

I wish someone would write a really in-depth book on 60's MIJ drums. I don't know about anybody else, but I was severely disappointed with that crappy little book that was written a couple of years ago that was basically just a listing of the different stencil names. The author could have done so much more.

Has anyone written a detailed history online of 60s MIJ drums? I have never seen anything.

Maybe I should just write the damn book myself. Ugh, no, probably too much work and not enough $$ in return. Soap Box

I do believe Mark Patch is updating his book.

I hope so. His first one was pretty much useless and incomplete. I'm not expecting much, to be honest.

I know the guy who wrote what I consider to be the definitive book on 60's MIJ guitars. His name is Frank Meyers, and he did a great job. Lots of information and great photos.

This was given to me years ago. Not sure if you read it. Kind of hidden in the web site. It does fill in one part of the history.

David! After all these years, I'm embarrassed to say that I've not seen that article! It will help many to understand about why there are dozens, if not hundreds, of different names associated with these MIJ drums!

As to the book by Marc Patch, I would never call it "useless". Honestly, that's being a bit harsh! I have the book and feel it's a great starter for anyone interested in the early 60's MIJ drums. Can it be expanded upon? Of course it can! But, it's a great primer on MIJ drums!

Sorry, Mark, we have to disagree. I thought it was a huge disappointment, something he slapped together quickly. It could have been much more informative and comprehensive. I was so disappointed, I threw my copy in the trash after I read it through, which took about a half hour.

As I said, someone needs to write a real book on MIJ drums. When Frank Meyers wrote the book on Japanese 60's guitars, he traveled to Japan to interview some of the people involved with the manufacture of the instruments. He contacted dealers and collectors, importers. and players, and there were hundreds of detailed color photos. He did it right.

If anything, you need to write your Best Drummers of the 1970s book first!

The greatest gift you can give your family and the world is a healthy you. - Joyce Meyer
