So It's been a few back and forth's and I just had to post this here. So on Facebook I'm friends with numerous other drum makers,artists,etc.. Always good to network with the people who have been in the business and can lend some good advice. One of those great guys is Bill Detamore from Pork Pie. Recently he had someone message him basically asking for free drums citing that they can turn Pork Pie into the next Tama, pearl,Etc... Well here is the recent e-mail Bill got.

" Billy this is not the way to talk to someone who has been in the drum industry for longer then anyone you know first of all. I can give you a few tips on how to work with customers and management in the drum industry let me know if your interested in that. Second of all I was just trying to help you guys out. Perhaps you found out who I am and are now suddnely defensive? Not sure exatly but I could bring you guys up to the TAMA level. Looking for a 7p kit gold plated nothing else will be aceptable. Let me know if you want me to take you to the guys to the next level

Also this is very offensive the way that your speaking to me how dare you. Disrespect someone like me when companys like Pearl and Sonar have so much respect for me.

I hate to raise my tone with you but you are out of line. Now Billy lets get a kit rockin and ill put your behavior in the past. I understand where your coming from "

Now the better part is that the person in question told Bill that he got offered and turned down a $50,000 offer from Pearl. Needless to say a bunch of Pearl guys are now inquiring as to who this is. Now I'm 100% no one here would ever act like this. But I gotta seriously wonder who this is, and why they would honestly think that everyone at these companies aren't all connected. These guys who see each other year after year at NAMM, have probably worked together at one point or another. It's sad that anyone thinks they are that great, even sadder when you feel the need to degrade someone to try and bully your way into getting what you want and doing absolutely no work for it. And I'm sorry, and I said this to Bill. I'm insulted by the fact that this guy is calling him " Billy ". Safe to say this guy isn't going anywhere. I personally do not know who it is, but people who make decisions about deals with artists probably do!

One would think someone that high up would know how to spell Sonor.!!

Its no surprise to me some people are like that though, its what makes the world go around. One only needs to ignore them, if you can. There is a drum assembler in Canada that fits that profile to a tee. This guy thinks so much of himself, you look at him and wonder why. Strange thing is when I see him or his name, I hear duelling bangos playing in the background...wonder what that means??

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

yeah, bill posts those types of messages a decent amount of time.

i'm aquanted with bill as i used to work at a indie, i know alot of other drum companies since i've worked namm since 93 and every instrument company get those types of calls and emails from people who get their first "real" album and tour and EXPECT free gear.

everyone knows each other and sometimes the same person will contact multiple companies to try and get free gear. when they name drop another brand they call them and ask if this person contacted them. its funny.

i used to do artist relations for my old job as well and to read and hear all the different angles people try to get free stuff is incredible.

no matter how many times people post online and in mags on how a endorsement works and how to go about it, people still think they're entitled because they have a record deal (almost always on a small indie label no one has heard of) and that they will be famous.

Exactly who I thought it was! Seriously, though, I've no doubt this goes on all the time. As previously posted, those in the business know each other and what is going on. I really enjoyed that email!

As for Bill, I've nothing but good things to say about him. I purchased a nice 6x14 snare from him many years ago. This was when Bill was making them out of his garage and displaying them in his house. The pictured drum was originally wrapped in Champagne Sparkle and used the common Pearl lugs, which kept the price down. I eventually had Bill change to wrap to Silver Sparkle to match an existing kit I had. I also swapped the Pearl lugs for nice Tama lugs.

Check out the original Pork Pie label and the low serial number. Thanks for a great drum, Bill!

That truly is a gorgeous snare. And at the very least, that e-mail is good for one heck of a laugh.

Best response yet! Took the words out of my mouth. :D

The completely uneducated guy who wrote the letter can't spell, or put an intelligible sentence together to save his life. Comes off like a real prick.

I think that is what makes it most hysterical. Acting like you are king and you can't even spell or properly write a sentence. Calling someone " Billy " who goes Bill is a flat out insult ( whether the guy realizes or not ) and the audacity to claim that the people are Pearl and Sonor treat him with class. And this line KILLS me ( laughing that is ) " Billy this is not the way to talk to someone who has been in the drum industry for longer then anyone you know first of all ".......I cannot speak for certain, but having been a drum builder since 1987 I'm betting Bill knows guys who were making drums in the hay day and before. They may not all be around today, but I'm betting he's known a few. As much as I do not want to know who this is, a big part of me does. Curious because with a statement like that, makes it sound like a guy who had 5 minutes of fame in the '70s or '80s and thinks they are still relevant. As opposed to some 20 year old kid who is just starting out.
