I reckon rich people need vintage drums too.

While I agree that the asking price is somewhat steep, isn't this about supply and demand? I have no idea what prices vintage drums fetch in that neck of Canada or indeed their availability there. We have the same issue here in New Zealand where vintage drums that might go for US$300 on a good day on Ebay or elsewhere in the US will go for two or three times that amount. I guess it's all about what the most a willing buyer is prepared to spend and what the least a seller is prepared to receive. If one or both of those criteria aren't met then the drums won't sell.

"If 'A' equals 'success' in life then 'A' equals 'X' plus 'Y' plus 'Z' where work equals 'X', 'Y' is play and 'Z' is keeping your mouth shut" - Albert Einstein.

...plus a bunch of mismatched Slingerlands that collectively make a pleasing noise.

The guy wants that amount because he's "including" cymbals and hardware, and is estimating what he spent on the kit.. He has come to the conclusion that it all allegedly comes out to that ridiculous amount..

A gentleman on the same classifieds has a few Ludwig kits that he's selling and they're all original, in absolute museum condition, at half the price of this kit..Mind you, there is no hardware or cymbals, but still..

Furthermore, this isn't what this kit is worth.. I've included a run down on the gear included with the kit, and what i think the current market value is, at least in my neck of the woods, which also depends on supply and demand..

As a gigging drummer myself for the past 24 yrs in the Montreal bar and pub scene, vintage kits aren't that much in demand, at least not with the younger cats out there..Please feel free to correct me with any of the guesstimations..:)

A used vintage 70's or 80's 20" or 22" A Zildjian ride will run you about $150-$175..

A used vintage 70's or 80's Paiste 18" crash will run around the same price range.. If someone wants the snare as well, and it's a 60's supra , it will be about $350-$400 if it's not an original 60's COB, which i doubt, but i could be wrong..If it is then we're talking close to what ? $800-$900 ? Even so, that comes to about $1250, then all that's left is the kit, which looks to be in great condition, which conservatively would hover around $1200-$1500..

Which brings it to a grand total of-- $2,750 Cdn dollars, and NO WAY IN HADES would it be 4K..This guy's dreaming in technicolor.. He'll realize this when he finds out that most of the drummers in Quebec who would be interested in this kit are usually gigging drummers with very little money at their disposal, myself included ;) LOL ! Oh, i almost forgot that contraption "rack" which looks to be 90's era Tama..Throw in another $100 for that, if there was anyone in crazy enough to buy it..

+1 with what Gerald Ball has said...alot of price differences are in the geographical areas and the further away from good ol` North America the higher the price.Vintage American made drums are much harder to come by in say New Zealand...

But as the Montreal drummer has said...there`s not much call from the younger cats there for vintage drums thus completely different price spreads-wonder where this is all going in the world market value? Sorry, didn`t mean to jump off topic on this thread.
