So How'd I do...? Ludwig "Ringo" Kit. Last viewed: 3 hours ago

So this all started a few days ago while starting the remodel on my sons room. It is a large room and when I am done there will be even more space for his guitar, bass guitar and amps... so I thought. "A drum set would really complete this room"

The next day I stopped by GC and looked at a used flat black PDP F-series. Could have picked it up for $160, and nearly did.

Then I started looking at some 70's Rogers drums and thought those would bring a bit more character, and fit better with his Les Paul Classic and the Peavy Bass.

Then I thought... you know, what would REALLY be nice is a kit that looks similar to the Ringo Starr Ed Sullivan kit. I figured I could buy a cheap set and wrap it in Oyster Black Pearl and that would be that.

Then after a little more research I kind of realized that would be a headache and in the end I would have a kit whose true value would be diminished.. and besides those 60's era Ludwigs are so cool... and sound so cool.

2 straight days on ebay and Craig's list have finally culminated in this kit. 22" bass drum no serial# keystone badge, 13" Tom with 5 digit serial and the 14" (Yes 14") **edited** floor tom with no serial keystone. $1,200 for all.

They are nearly perfect. I am in disbelief. Most of the chrome looks nearly new. There is one cigarette burn on the bass but that is about it. They are Blue Oyster Pearl but I don't care. They are so gorgeous and they are close enough.

Well ... so long as you are happy, that's what matters. Enjoy it and play the heck out of it. Wow ...

12" floor tom? And we thought 14's were rare...

That is a pretty kit. I'll be interested to hear what others think of that floor tom as that is certainly above my pay grade.

Well that makes a bit more sense. I was thinking you got taken. Great news! I do love a Luddy 14 floor. Nice nice sounds. Congrats on your beeyouteefull kit.

Yeah I can't believe I wrote that. Not that I am not that stupid but I have been doing nothing but researching 60's Ludwig drums for the last couple weeks and 14" floor toms and their rarity.

What's killing me is that I can't even play the kit. So I am now scouring CL and ebay trying to piece together all the parts needed to make it a player.

I just picked up a stripped to wood 8 lug 14X5.5 snare on ebay for $175 with all the hardware. . It's missing the badge and of course covering but a nice Jazz Festival snare goes for about as much as I paid for the entire kit.

Don't care about the badge since I plan on re-wrapping it anyway so I won't feel guilty about this one. Got a line on a ride and hi hat on CL that hopefully I can pick up today and there seems to be plenty of sub $100 speed king bass pedals on ebay.

Now if I can just calm my wife down. lol

Beautiful kit! Now all you need to do is get rid of that pesky furniture (CL will work) and you'll have room for a couple more!

If I buy any more I will have no problem getting rid of the furniture because my wife will take it with her. I admit though sourcing this kit is so fun I know when it's finally all done I will want to keep going and build another one.

Hmmm, maybe if I sell them after I build them...
