Snare Drum w/ Ludwig Tag - I'm not so sure...

Loading...

Hey all, I have this snare drum with a Ludwig/Trademark/Made in U.S.A. Tag over the soundhole. I have tried to do some research on the exact model of snare drum, but have been unable to find anything so far.

Specs:

3 1/2" x 12"

Wire-Wrapped Cord (or something like it) Snares

Ludwig/Trademark/Made in U.S.A. tag

mmmm, number of lugs = 4

Actually, I'm beginning to think that this was almost a homemade snare drum, seeing that there is no snare release or any markings at all really. Please, if you have a moment, take a look at the pics and do your best. Thanks again everyone!! Great site, by the way.

Chris

Looks like a model called the "Juvenile" or a version of it.

Catalog description.

"Suitable for children from ages five to eight" It is not intended as a mere toy but for the young drum enthusiast"

Thanks David!.....I had noticed that description of the "Juvenile" on the National Music Museum's website...Just wasn't sure that that description matches my drum.

Do you happen to know of any production numbers for this type of snare drum? and or...

Are you aware of any other resources out there that may help in my search?

Once again, Thanks!

There are no production numbers available, it was made for many years and is in a bunch of catalogs.

I'm not sure exactly what other information you need?

If you want I can probably get you a scan of the picture in the catalog showing the drum and the description.

Also the drum itself has changed a bit over the years based on the catalogs, but the 1938 catalog shows the exact drum with the same strainer, badge and vent hole. I think yours is missing some hoop tension rods and clips

Hi. I have a Ludwig "Junior" kit from 1941 (Basically, an un-changed configuration from around 1925). The snare drum that came with the kit looks very similar to your drum. The "snare tension adjustment knob" is just that. It's not a "throw" off, but it IS a strainer. It's not home made. The drum looks pretty original. I say keep it that way. Don't expect too much from the sound. They are pretty much toys, albeit NICE toys. On my "Junior" kit, for example, both the snare drum and bass drum are SOLID steambent maple shells! Value apart from a set is not great.
