Snare Drum Info Req Last viewed: 1 day ago

Hi to all,

I have to confess, I'm not a drummer, but, a guitarist.

My father asked me to join this forum as he hasn't yet ajusted to 20th century technology nevermind 21st.

His question is this,

He swapped an upright piano for DW shell pack and what is believed to be a 1956 Leedy snare drum.

It is a wooden shell with off white pearl finish, has chrome rings and has 8 lugs. Fitted with a twin padded internal damper.

It is in all original condition, has the over Leedy badge, I do believe it is actually a copy of a Slingerland snare as they owned Leedy at that time.

Please see the pictures below, hope you can help and possibly put a value to it?

My father says it has a nice mellow sound to it but he prefers his Ludwig 400 snares to use in a live enviroment.

Hi,

Thanks for this info, I will pass it on to my father whom I'm sure will appreciate your info.

He tell's me this will go to me when the inevitable happens along with his Ludwig kit..........best get some serious practice in then, I was 9 yrs old the the first & last time I tried to learn how to play the drums. Hence, why I defected to the guitar.

Regards,

Thanks for that, Wayne.

I think the snare will end up either as a spare or boxed up in the wardrobe. My father uses a 1970's Ludwig 400 with the identical snare as a spare, he prefers the sharp sound that they give, especially when it is mic'd up!
