I own a Gretsch Progressive Jazz/Max Roach snare and have just fitted a new snare tensioner. I bought a new tensioner in the States, one of the newly made ones with the locking lever (created because the original tensioner has a habit of throwing itself off during play). However, I am having a problem with getting the snares to 'clear' the snare head when I throw off. I didn't have this trouble with the tensioner I took off, but I'm not convinced that the new tensioner is to blame. The drum has the original snare 'stop' at the opposite end, and I have to say I find this device hard to fathom how to use. Could this be to blame for the non-clearance?
