I am currently tearing down my slingerland set and inspecting everything and shining up all the chrome. Are the tension rods period specific or are they a generic item that I could just buy new ones and get a sweet shine off of? The old ones are not that bad but as cheap as new ones are, I'd rather not even shine them if i dont have to. Besides, a couple of them are slightly rounded over.
Kick drum. Same question except the deals that hold the wood hoop on. Are new ones noticeable or should i try to shine the old ones?
Finally, my Slingerland stands have a couple threaded holes that are stripped. Probably from my old man being drunk and overtightening back in the day but I am not sure. My question is can I just retap a slightly larger hole and find the winged bolts to fit or should I fill in with JB weld or something like that and retap to original size and use the old wingbolts. The wingbolts seem, again, a generic fastener and not a vintage, period specific item.
All this being said, I am trying to maintain the integrity of this, my only, drum set and would hate to have one of you pros immediatley point out the "obvious" use of new tension rods or whatever when i post the finished pics! Hence my questions.
thanks,
