Slingerland Tempo King Pedal

Loading...

Hello again!

Some of you may know that I am technically challenged when it comes to posting pictures. So I can't post one, but I just want to know what era mine is from.

It's got the big "S" on the footboard, leather strap, and the posts are like a light blueish-green. On the right side of the pedal where the "S" hook and spring attaches is a threaded piece that is adjustable into one of three positions. The pedal clamps on with a 1/4" threaded screw underneath the pedal post plate onto which a small spring is attached underneath the hoop clamp, with a round nut on top of the hoop clamp (the hoop clamp itself is not attched to the pedal plate; it's held in place by the screw, spring and round nut on top of it). The heel plate is black and fairly thick, with three screws in the shape of a triangle underneath it. The heel plate connects to the vertical posts witha moveable (but not detachable) support bar. Hopefully, I've given you guys enough detail to tell me the era. I want to say 70's, but I am not quite sure.

It came with a cheap old kit I recently bought. The pedal is in great shape. I replaced the spring and beater, and it works and feels great. The only damage is the threaded spring tension adjustment piece (to which the bottom of the spring attaches) is a little bit bent, but it still works fine. The only other modification I did was I replaced the screw that threads up from the plate and through the hoop clamp, because it was too long; when I would push down on the pedal, the bottom of the footboard would hit the top of the screw. A shorter screw makes all the difference.

Thanks.

Hi! I've posted a picture of the venerable 938 Tempo King pedal. It first came out in the early 60's and was offered up into the 80's. Some of the differences included: various shades of blue paint, changes to screws, bolts, ball bearings, etc. The 'S' hook on the posted picture came out sometime in the 70's. Originally, it was a triangle looking piece. About the only real downside of the pedal was the thin leather strap, which eventually was made thicker. Many drummers, including myself, usually adapt a woven strap that will not stretch or break. I really like the Tempo King!

Thank you! That's is the EXACT model I have. Some have a different hoop clamp assembley and a "t" nut to hold the beater in place (as opoosed to the key operated nut shown). Mine is exactly like the one pictured. Any idea on the time frame of production?

Hi! I would say that my pedal was manufactured some time in the 70's. The pedal was produced for close to 20 years, from the early 60's to the very late 70's. Enjoy your Tempo King!
