I probably could need some advice on the gut snares. The sound is OK but a bit to dry and short to my liking. I would also love to try it with extended snare wires,... all suggestions or input is highly appreciated.

Looking good Stef. That is the question, the adjustable snares. Someone I know has used a "tennis-gut mod" in which they used tennis strings. You might not be getting enough contact with the head. Just a thought.

Also .. it looks like you are using a coated head ? Maybe try a clear ? I was looking at this Aquarian for a batter side.

Another gentleman told me he used hot wax on the batter-side bearing edge "so the drumhead would seat nice and smooth all the way around". This was in the 70's, I am considering giving it a go. :) Maybe I will finish the TDR as a Christmas present to myself.

Looks so clean !!! Congrats !!

Hey Stef,When do you start on the matching Piccolo.. from the left over shell??

HAHAHA John,...I did think about it !

Unfortunately, the lug-holes are out of center so I would need to cut both edges, plug holes, etc... I do have left over green sparkle wrap from a previous project,... so I might consider a shallow shell drum. The person who sold the TDR Lite to me mentioned he had another one that he might sell,... Guitar Dude Man

Anyway,...thank you all for the nice comments.

I will try to make some sound files from my latest 2 projects (incl. Leedy Dual)

This my first "deep" wooden shell snare drum so in the coming days and weeks I will experiment a bit with heads, tension and wires. One thing I definitely want to try is extended Puresounds.

Beautiful work and beautiful result!

Did you use the router to blend the wrap to the shell or is that hand work?
