Hi, brace yourself for what might be some stupid noob questions...
I have searched this forum and the web extensively for suggestions on how to remove residual glue from a Slingerland snare wrap that I took off.
Acetone seems to be the front runner in glue removal, but my experience with it has been a bit of a headache. The glue softens enough to scrape off, but only for about 5 seconds. As soon as the acetone evaporates, the glue hardens again making scraping a nightmare.
I plan to stain the drum when I am done, so I would like to keep the wood clear of discolorations. I have read that Goof Off is a good alternative to acetone. Does it stay on a little longer before evaporating?
My second question involves the scraping. I got a little plastic putty knife to do the scraping, but the edge of it gets knicked too easily making the scraping less efficient. I really dont want to gouge the wood with a metal scraper (I have to put considerable pressure on the scraper to get the glue to come off). Any other scraper suggestions?
Finally, when the time comes to replace the hardware, I would like to use rubber gaskets under the lugs. The lugs are Slingerland, I think from somewhere in the 70's or 80's. Any ideas on where to find something like that?
Thanks for your patience, I really dig the forum.
