I recently aquired a vintage 1959 Slingerland snare that looks pretty bad. It was completely painted black with a water soluable paint, including the badge.
I was able to get the paint off of the badge, but after carefull inspection of the drum, it looks like the original wrap was removed. It also appears that some repairs have been made to the shell.
At this point, I'm not sure what, if any valve the drum has. What should I do? Rewrap it with a vintage wrap or just strip it and sell the parts?
