Slingerland snare i.d. Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hello to everyone, my first post here.

My question is about a recent purchase of a Slingerland snare. My research leads me to believe that what I have here is a mid 70's 14" TDR Concert King snare. It is in virtually new condition, and everything checks out, however, I believe the improper snare wire set has been installed, as below;

According to all the "proper" photos I have found, the snare wire strands should extend right across the head to beyond the bearing edge. The TDR strainer system allows for this. Question is, what snare wire set do I use? Pure Sound offers a "long" snare wire set for Radio King models, having a total length of 15-3/4", and a strand length of 14-7/8". My measurements tell me this will indeed fit. Would this snare wire set be considered the correct one for this drum, or are there other options? All info and advice welcomed.

Thanks and regards.

Hi coates Welcome to the forum!

The puresound snares would work fine, but they make 2 types of extended

snare wires. One will suit your drum, the other has only has one hole in the centre of each end to suit the "clamshell" strainer.

Pearl also make extended wires that fit,I have a TDR snare with The Pearl

snares on it and they work and sound fine.

Best bet would be to check their websites for more info.

Hope this helps.

Stevo.

Hey Stevo,

Thanks for the welcome and the info. Do you happen to know the Pearl part number for the set you are using? I have looked into their parts catalogs on their website, but it just gives part number and length, the longest being 14". No mention of an extended length model.

Sorry coates, there is no number stamped on the Pearl snare wires.

I got them from a local drum store, asked the guy behind the counter if he

had any snare wires about 16" long,(thinking my chances are next to none)

he searched out back for a while and found them, couldn't believe my luck!

Oh yeah, I think your drum could be a Buddy Rich model, 5 ply shell, TDR,

and three vent holes, which I think is the same as a concert king.

Buddy Rich model sounds cooler though Cool Dude

I've seen the Puresound snare wires for your drum on ebay, you might want

keep an eye out on there too.

Cheers Stevo.
