Slingerland shell with three reinforcement rings Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Was going through my drums and my BDP slingerlands. The bass drum is 20" and I know is from the later 60's due to it's badge. However the kit also came with a 14" marching snare that was converted ( semi poorly ) into a tom. I need to re-wrap it and plan to use it as hanging floor tom. My question is what years could this have been from with three reinforcement rings? It didn't have a badge, but the hardware and shell construction tells of it's true maker. I'll post some photos within the next day.

Very early Slingerland had 3 re rings. Early or pre Radio King. Mahogany interior and thick re rings would be hints. Mid to late 30's to early 40's I think was the time frame. Maybe someone can nail it down closer for you. What lugs did it have? That might help date it a bit closer.

Glenn.

It came equipped with Sound king lugs. But I'm not sure if those were added later on.

Those lugs would have been added later, which required boring out the holes a bit. Yes, three rings is 1935 to about 1942.

I may have to set this drum aside and find two period correct ones to go along with my bass drum. Maybe do a little restoration on this puppy.

I'll post a pic later today. The biggest gripe is that when I got the drum it was missing the badge and grommet!

So did you add the badge and grommet yourself ? It didn't have one at all then?

I honestly haven't put any badge on it yet. Wanted to get an idea of the proper badge that should be on before I went ahead with that. If this does turn out to be as old as could be, I might restore it as a snare. Still has good beds. Give it a new wrap and have myself a new snare. It does look as though the badge was removed. All I can say is at some point, some owner plugged the holes, added the japan clip mount and decided where the wrap was ripped to ( Brace Yourselves ) STAPLE IT ON!!! So with that wisdom off came the badge as well. Thankfully I got the drums on the cheap and the bass drum is in really good shape.. Couple scuffs, but nothing like the snare shell.
