Slingerland Rapid Strainer Gasket

Hey Guys,

I just bought a 65 Slingerland 6 lug snare with a rapid strainer. The gasket for the strainer, if that is the right term, is pretty much falling apart.

What are folks doing to replace the it? Is heading to the local hardware store and finding something in the o-ring/grommet section the best bet? I doubt it will be at the local music stores.

I use a plumbing rubber washer. Home Depot.

Thank you for the response. Is the washer you used kind of cup shaped? Do you happen to have a part number or picture?

I found a rubber grommet and tried it but it seems a little too grabby not allowing the strainer to drop easily. But, the drum is stripped of the heads right now so maybe it wouldn't be an issue when set up with the tension of the snare wires.

Now I'm thinking of cutting a piece of felt like what is used for snare mufflers or cymbal pads. Seems like the felt would keep the parts from rattling but yet allow them to slide more easily than rubber. It would wear faster than rubber but is easy enough to replace.

Look in Plumbing at Home Depot. Valve washer section. Plastic boxes hanging on display wall. Mine is about 1/2" wide and 1/4" tall. Hole is big enough for adjustment bolt to go through. About 3/16"

It has a bevel on 1 side. See pics.

Look at some felt pads from the hardware store, (you know), the self adhesive pads made for furniture legs.. Use a nail punch to make the hole.. then do it again in about Feb 2040...

A section cut from automotive small hose will be good till 2065 at least :-).
