Did Slingerland offer this finish and if so, what was it called? I know they had black sparkle, but this kit looks maroon.Thanks.
Slingerland Question
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
According to the link you provided, maroon glass glitter was available from 70-75, this kit is from the 60's. I was told it's black sparkle that has faded. But there is a 12" tom that is definitly black sparkle and is much darker with silver flecks, it can be seen on shelf next to kit. Has anyone seen black sparkle fade to this color?
It's definitely not pristine, but I'm digging the look and may swap out my Trixon.

Hi jr!
This is a really tough call for a couple of reasons; really need larger and more clear pictures of the wrap to make a determination. I noticed that the badge is missing from the bass drum. Does the grommet appear to be tampered with?
pictures of the wrap with the heads removed might also help. Showing the bearing edge and overlap may also be a clue.
I really can't find anything similar to what you have, especially considering the year of the drums.

Here's a few more detailed pictures of the drums. You can clearly see that not only is the color different, but the 12 has less maroon specs.
I took the bottom head off the 13 and the wrap looks tight and even. I'm guessing this isn't a re-wrap, maybe the root beer sparkle that has faded?
I need the Slingerland gurus to give their opinions.
Here's the 13 with the head removed.
Sparkling Black Pearl.
Ok, but why is the 12 darker and appears to have less sparkle flakes?
Could be a different batch of wrap and the manufacturer may have changed the formula.
