The only difference between the New Rock 50N and Modern Solo 2R are the stands that come with them. Did you see my post under your "wanted" section? That explains the differences. Check that out and see if it answers all your questions.

After 1968, the only difference, as far as I know, was in the hardware. The Modern Solo was sold with flush base stands, and the New Rock had the braced "Buddy Rich" stands.

Exactly! You could also substitute a 22" bass drum for the cataloged 20", although the 22" did become standard in later years. I"ll post my kit here, as both a Modern Solo and New Rock, so you can see that the differences were only in the stands.

I call mine a "New Rock" because it's in the blue agate "catalog" wrap, but it came with no hardware at all. I got some unknown provenance flush base stands for it, so I guess I could call it a "Modern Solo."

When it comes to pedals and hardware, I'm not concerned that they match; my hi hat stand and my bass pedal are both vintage, but the hi hat stand is a Rogers Supreme Big R and I use bass pedals assembled from various eras of DW5000 and Camco.

It sure is great to see someone with a full-on set of hardware that looks like it came right out of the 1970 catalog, though.

I'm always curious: how do those older Slingerland pedals compare with more modern or specialized ones?

I’m very late to the party but say someone were to have an orange sparkle avante kit (all original). What in the world would something like that bring? It seems as if it should be fairly collectible based on the rarity but what do we think?
