Slingerland Expertise Needed: Fair offer?

Loading...

Need some help from you Slingy guys. I have an opportunity to buy a mint COW 50N from a friend who's not really a vintage bug. I don't need it or really want it, but he's giving me first option to buy before putting it on CL, and I'd hate to see this set end up in the hands of some kid who's going to throw it in the back of a van and gig with it until it's beat to crap.

My buddy is the original owner, and since the day he first bought it, human hands have never come in direct contact with the shells, the stands, or the Zildjians. He's always worn cotton gloves for setup and breakdown! Crazy! He has a couple nice kits which he gigs with, and this set just remains unused, sealed up in their cases, so he feels it's time to part with it (just the 5-piece shell pack, no stands).

I asked him how much he wants for the set, and he simply said, "You're into vintage stuff. I'll take whatever you think is a fair price." I certainly don't want to take advantage of our friendship so I want to offer him a fair (or more than fair) price. If this were a Rogers kit, I'd know exactly what I'd offer, but I am definitely out of my element with Slingerland.

I know there's other details needed, but just based upon the fact that the kit looks like it just came out of the box, what would be a fair price for the 5 drums? Appreciate any expert advise here.

Hi Mike, I'm no expert, but these are really nice. It's nice to see the whole set, I suppose the snare is part of the orginal set. These look to be early to mid 70,s, , good wrap, no rust, no dents. Can't see the serial numbers. If it were mine I would sell them for around, 900 to 1200. Just my opinon, and I am no expert. I would see if the other experienced guys has an opinion. Bucky

If the hardware comes with the kit $1200.00 to $1300.00

Mike I'd price those a bit higher at $2000. Given the fact bare hands never touched them and how well they were cared for. You just don't see these drums like that anymore. Most are pitted and rusted.

Mike!

I know those drums very well ... and their owner! 😀 Comes as no surprise he would offer you first refusal ... or first take! Do you .. we .. any of us! .. NEED more drums??!! But of course!!! 😀 ENJOY, should you be only the 2nd caretaker!

As we all well know, Slingerland drums just won’t bring the same cash that the other brands do. Those drums would sit at $1200 on Craigslist.

I think the $800 estimate without the hardware is right on.

Anytime it’s NOS it’s always worth way more than a persons willing to pay good luck...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
