I have this peal with the old style huge sheepskin beater. Can someone tell me about this?... what year, value etc.
Slingerland Epic Pedal
Nice pedal. I believe Slingerland made the Epic from the late 30's to the mid/late 50's. It was originally their top of the line pedal, but was later marketed as their base model behind the HH and the AA. I don't think there were a whole lot of changes to the design while it was in production, including the beater, so I couldn't tell you what year this one is from. As far as value, they pop up on ebay pretty frequently usually for somewhere between $50-$100.
Hi Stoli,
I checked the US eBay site and found that "sold" Epic pedals went for a low of $25.99 to over $100 US. Condition, and color of the frame, seems to have allot to due with price.

Hi guys,
Team I did a little research and also came up with the same facts regarding when it was available as a top line pedal... from 30's through about 1955. In the 60's the pedal frame changed from a sort of wrinkle black to red. Mine is black with black also in the pedal itself. I found a picture of one exactly like mine with the black on the pedal in a Slingerland catalog online. I need to go look again.
I also found the part numbers. They are:
Epic Pedal - Part #939 (1940) in 1950 it's listed both as #939 AND #940... hmm
Optional Lamb's Wool Beater - Part #B76
When I find that catalog picture I'll post it.
idrum4fun, thanks for the info. I'm assuming that the black ones are more desirable due to age? I think mine is in relatively good shape besides some normal wear and tear. It's not mint by any means just fair to good condition.
Here's a picture from a 1950 drum catalog. Sure seems to show what I'm assuming to be black paint on the pedal.
