Slingerland COW drum question.

Loading...

I keep seeing Slingerland drums referred to as "chrome over wood" drums, then I will see "chrome over maple" drums.

Is there both? Or are they all maple? If there is a difference, what other wood was used?

Thanks for any info!!

Three ply Maple/poplar/Mahogany, Five ply/ solid shells maple. Etc all and more.. So many varied combo's of timber shells have been wrapped in chrome at some point … Hence COW is accepted & referred to as a broad shell description (opposed to COS & COB) . So if you are speaking of COW you need to look further at the shell construction.

Cheers

John

Short answer for Slingerland thru '86: All the same. Almost without exception Slingerland COW drums have an interior ply of maple. Shell construction of Slingerland COW era 3-ply drums is maple and poplar with an outer ply of mahogany or maple. 5-ply is the same with an additional ply of poplar and maple. There may be some COW snares with solid maple shells but they would be quite rare.
