Slingerland - 18" tom

Guys,

I'm converting a mid to late 60's Slingerland 18" floor tom into a bass drum.

I took the hoops apart and discovered two sizes for the lugs. Any idea why? I didn't notice as I was taking them off. 8 ea of 2" and 8 ea of the 2 1/2"

Any idea which goes where? Id like to probably replace some of them. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.

The short ones look to be substitutes, but a maybe closer shot will confirm that.

I also have an 18" Ft I purchased it new in the mid 70's. Whilst restoring the kit only a few years ago I noticed the same thing... 8 longer tension screws than the other 8, but mine are all definitely Slingerland from the factory...

I think I sorted the longer ones to the reso side.. but would have to check..

I have put the longer screws to the reso head.. (just for consistency).. I see no reason for the different sized screws.. other than suspecting a dodgy assembly/QC at the time.
