Found this online article with some interesting information on shipping possibilities I was not aware of before.

I use the bus all the time for oversized bass drum shipping, Much cheaper than UPS or Fedex, I'm in the process of using them to ship a 26" and 28" bass drums.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

I lost money recently on an eBay sale of a previously altered cymbal. I estimated $12 to ship a 14" cymbal, but it cost me $23 and change. I got $12.49 for the cymbal. After feeBay and PayUpPal took their fees, I lost money. But the point is, how can some businesses and individuals ship via USPS so cheaply, but it always seems I, and many of us, pay through the nose?

I'll definitely keep Greyhound in mind for large packages in the future.

Thanks for the information, amosguy!
