Sanding Silver Sparkle Wrap

Loading...

I dont work for Mr. Clean and I picked the Magic Eraser tip up from this forum. It cleans with a "melamine Polymer". So it is generates a "mild" abrasive foam from the melamine polymer impregnated into the sponge.

It is a plastic abrasive so its less likely to damage the wrap, but attacks the gunk. TMI?

Your results look really great. I would not beat yourself up over the Novus 1-2-3 experiment. Those products are top shelf for general restoration of plastic finishes and will give you great results on a variety of restoration projects. They won't remove the "yellow" but they will improve moderate scratches, clean and restore some serious shine to a wrapped finish. I've enjoyed following. Your posts. Thanks for sharing.

I set out to experiment to see what would work best. I have no issue with the Novus products and I will use them. After the 8x12 was finished I used the Novus 1 for a final coat and the whole basement got brighter.

Next, the Bass Drum. The base drum had a Luddy cymbal mount installed; dead center of the front top. This must have been done when the kit was nearly new. The method the original owner used for measuring was trial and error (4 holes for one mount) I plugged and patched and will see how well i can get the old mount location to match. It was pristine silver underneath. Thanks to Precision Drum for mailing me a sample of "silver sparkle" wrap to top the four plugs. They do great work (edges and cuts I can attest to)and are the best to work with. I wish I lived closer.

No lost washers so far!!!!!! Thos bastrds like to escape!

Base drum ready for hardware. Pics are after repair, before cleaning. Then after clean and polish...done.

I did wet sand an area to test again and saw no improvement so I stopped before I damaged the drum. I used Mister Clean "extra power" Magic Eraser. The eraser had to be rinsed often. I compounded by hand, then Maguires PlastiX, and Novus for final polish and shine.

Very improved, but the repair is still obvious. Not much more I am capable of. The Bass was the most faded, most grime, and grittiest. Must have been a great drink holder, stick holder, Foot Stool and general smoke collector.

Photos are after repair, befroe cleaning and then after clean and shine.

I am ready to assemble and play before I do the final tom (9x13).

Caio for now....
