safest way to clean Gretsch flame wrap?

Loading...

I've managed to accumulate some Gretsch round badge aqua satin flame drums, some of which need cleaning. Most of us are aware of how fragile the vintage Gretsch vintage flame wraps from the 1960s are. These drums already have some scratching and cracking, and I want to make sure that as I clean them, I don't damage the finish any further.

I am confident in my ability to clean the hardware safely and effectively. It's the wrap I am asking about.

Any advice? Thanks!

Soap and water on a damp sponge, rinse with plain water on a sponge, towel dry.

DanC is right on the money. Under no circumstances use any harsh products. It can melt that finish. Good luck.

As above, except I have used Micro fibre cloth instead of the sponge.. I think that gets into the grain a little better.

Cheers
