Safe way to remove paint on wrap?

Loading...

Hello

I picked up a Ludwig and Ludwig bass drum and two CB-700 toms recently. Both spray painted black, and all three shells have a wrap underneath.

Is there a safe way of removing the spray paint without ruining the warp? I have "Ready Strip" but read the label and it says do not use on plastic...

Anyone have any luck with paint thinner or another brand of paint remover?

Thanks

Motsenbocker's Lift-Off #4 Graffiti Remover! Works fast, easy 'wipe-off' paint removal. I used it on a set of Mardi Gras Roger's drums that had been painted black. The shells came out great. The paint had actually preserved the wrap underneath!

Good luck.

Try John's advice first but...

Goo Gone might also work.

I haven't tried it on a wrap but easily took white splattered paint (I think latex) off a black lacquered floor tom. Didn't harm the black lacquer at all.

Someone did an extensive post testing wraps with paint on here 6 months ago. I think they found Varns print wash or something like that worked the best.

Purdie Shuffle knocked it outta the park, just picked some up today and it's working great!

I had tried goo gone first and it was too runny and messy for the bass drum. It does work well on small areas though.

Will post pictures when done

Excited

Cool! Glad you like it, that stuff works great. Don't leave it on too long though! As soon as you see it bubble up, wipe it off and done. Doesn't get much easier than that.

Photos when you're all done please!
