Rogers Enthusiasts.

I used to have the original Rogersdrums.com website in the 90's up through 2003 and interested in seeing if there's an interest to seeing this site comeback under a new name. I still have every catalog Rogers ever put out hi-res scanned including the US, Japanese and English catalogs and yes, even Brook Mays catalogs. I still have every fact sheet and manual scanned as well as parts catalogs and price lists and how to fix tutorials including those pesky loose Swivo collet noses.

Used to be in the old days if you wanted a catalog you would have to download each PDF page from the site. Plans are to have all Rogers info put into rar files for easy and fast downloads in a download section.

Some of you know I had plans to resurrect the Rogers company and had quite a fight with Brook Mays over it and I'm sorry to say with the passing of my good friend Kelly Smith and my rapidly advancing age this is not going to happen as well as Yamaha now owns the rights to the name.

My son Christopher is again working on what we have and if you remember the last time I hosted it we had full color scans from the catalog where you clicked on drum heads in the picture to select where you wanted to go. Sadly, that has not scaled well to 1080+ resolution so currently the crappy interface from 1998 is being used until it can be fixed. Yes, lots of things are broken but they are being fixed.

Is it worth doing??? Let me know here with a reply. Currently the website is at:

Yes, yes yes!!!!!

I LOOOOOVE my old Rogers kit. I wish I had it back!!!!

I wish you could have resurrected Rogers drums and had them made like they used to be.

All I have is information on cyberspace.

Yes, what you wish to undertake is WELL worth it.

Cheers.

JR!! GREAT to see you're still in it. Been away for a long time but looks like we're going to do it. I closed out my storage and brought out my Rogers drum and catalog collection and I had kept a DVD of the last backup of the web site done in 2003. Frankly, when Kelly passed away for me there was a void in the Rogers community that still hasn't been filled. His work on serial number dating is still the best there is out there and he nailed it with his wood Dynasonic's he built. I still have the Rogers prototype drums we worked on when we were going to restart the company. We are going to dedicate the website to his memory.

I just got tired of endlessly arguing about RIMS mounts and drum shell resonance on the drum websites and got bored with it. That, and the fact the website was costing almost a grand a month in cable bandwidth fees and support costs I decided to close it down and I GAVE the site to someone else including the name and walked away.

How many people know why Rogers sounds the way they do and why no other drums will EVER sound like the Ohio drums? I'll be covering that on the new site and no, Rogers shells don't resonate unless you hit them with a 5lb sledge hammer and the rate of the decay is in microseconds. Yep, I did the measurements in an anechoic chamber with spectral analysis back in the day. I know exactly why they have their unique sound and Kelly and I were able to duplicate it exactly. The bearing edge is important but not the secret.......Stay tuned!

There has been a great deal learned over the past few years, especially about the Big R period serial numbers. A few very interesting things about the later Dynasonics and Supertens that will be a joy to share with more people.

Hey Gene

We were up to $500 on that domain name when it went out to the public.

I forgot what it sold for eventually, but it did end up being some portal money web site, which I was hoping to avoid.

Good to see your working on it again.
